Why the gorge of Sougia to Lissos should be on your list

For those who have not been to this gorge before:
It is an adventure you should not miss out on. It's spectacular and magic. And even though it isn't long, you will feel like witnessing several time periods and different countries.
From the narrow gorge itself, to a very green nature followed by a big plateau up on the mountain which is a sight on itself, but also offer an amazing view. And then the steps down to ancient Lissos, which is a marvel on itself.
Bring water and food! There is a natural spring in Lissos to refill your bottles(clean and tasty water), but there are no bars or restaurants.

My advice is to start in Sougia. Either go by car, or take the bus to Sougia. If you are early, I recommend having a drink in one of the beachbars. Just enjoy the view for a moment. After that walk west towards the little harbor. After the harbor, you will see a narrow path leading into the gorge. You'll soon notice there is a lot of vegitation in this gorge.
The walk itself isn't too long, nor too steep. The walk goes just slightly up all the way, except for a few moments where you need to climb a little. The gorge itself is not that hard, but I would not recommend it for people who are not fit or are not good on foot. You need to be able to climb a little. At the end you have to take the steps to Lissos down the mountain, so I also would not advice it for people who are afraid of heights. Although: I myself really am terrified of heights. And I did it. Yeah my legs felt a bit 'rubbery' when walking down these steps, and I might have screamed now and then. But I am really glad I did it as it was an experience not soon forgotten.

You don't really need a map for this gorge. Keep following the yellow signs and stones that point the way. During the walk, there are a few places that offer shadow under a tree to sit and relax before continueing. When you reach the plateau, take a good look around at the different colors of green. Do this gorge on a sunny day to get the most out of it. The colors of green are unlike most you see.

When you reach Lissos, take a break near the spring or beach, and then have fun exploring the ruins of the ancient city of Lissos. Eventually you can take the boat back from Lissos to Sougia. Boats come and go, and only cost a few euro per person. Bring your mobile phone just in case. Near the spring you will see several phonenumbers of taxiboats you can call if you don't want to wait for a boat to arrive.

One piece of advice: wear swimming clothes underneath. When you see the crystal blue waters of Lissos, you might want to dive in.
