Mirtos Animal Project
The target of the Mirtos Animal Project is to help as many homeless animals to get a new home.
They work together with P.A.W.S. Crete, Cretan Animal Protection, Voice of Cats Alliance, Hectors House Crete, MAWS to give shelter to animals brought or found and do their best to find a new owner that is actually looking for an animal.
Their work is admirable to say the least. Crete is full of homeless cats and dogs. Most people that go to Crete know how sweet most of these animals are. And especially now that the economy is down, the citizens of Crete can't always afford to keep on feeding those homeless animals.
My focus in this article mainly lies at www.mirtos.nu. They ship animals to Holland, where they are placed at families who take care of them until a new owner is found. Although this all goes to Holland, one of the folks at Mirtos told me that they actually ship animals to various countries. The animals are then first screened(can they be placed with people, how is their behaviour, do they have illnesses) and are then chipped and given their shots.
Yesterday we actually got ourself 2 kittens from Mirtos, and I must say they are the sweetest little things.
