Besides the fact that a sunset can be absolutely gorgeous, a sunset also relieves stress. It helps against depression. If you are on vacation, then nothing will aid your vacation more than some great sunsets. But also if you are having a tough time, or even if it's just been a hard day at work, it always feels like this has some healing powers.

Some call if Agii Apostoloi and some call it Kalamaki.
The border is somewhere in between. I took the photo from Agii Apostoloi looking towards Kalamaki. Both Kalamaki and Agii Apostoloi are great places to stay. A lof nature, beautiful bays, dozens of bars and restaurants, close to Chania yet not as crowded as Chania. When people talk about Preveli, it's usually about the palm beach, palm forest or the long steps leading down(or worse: back up).
But Preveli has a lot of nature that is worth exploring. The river that ends up at the beach, provides with so much green in Preveli area. And it will be a lot less crowded than the beach! It always feels like time is standing still for a moment when you enjoy that sunset at the beach.
And if you don't have the patience to just enjoy the view, nothing really beats a swim in these pearl warm waters. Photo taken at Agii Apostoli, Chania. One of the places that always gives me an incredible relaxed summerfeeling is Kalyves, Crete. Walk the narrow streets in this beautiful village, or enjoy a terrace in the shade or at the beach.
This beautiful crafted big statue of Icarus can be found between Koum Kapi and Chalepa. When you walk across Koum Kapi(where all the bars and restaurants are at the seaside) away from Chania harbor and towards Chalepa, keep following the shore and you'll walk past it.
One of the romantic alleys in the old town of Chania. There are quite a few great small bars and restaurants in these narrow alleys.
An HDR photo I made in the gorge of Mily. This is below the restaurant. One of the many old ruins you can find there. Mily is certainly worth a visit.
Read more about it here. Under Photos there is also an album dedicated to it(the photos there are a bit older though). A view of the lighthouse in the old Venetian harbor of Chania during a storm. Photo taken from the west side, near the museum.
The typical blue and white of Greece. A terrace like this in the sun and at the beach makes most of us wish we were sitting there right now, enjoying a cold beverage.
A long exposure at night. Taken from the old Fortezza near the lighthouse looking towards the old Venetian port.
An HDR right before sunset in the harbor of Chania. I took this photo next to the old mosque looking towards the west side of the old Venetian harbor.
Sougia is an amazing place in the south of Crete. The view is amazing, and the whole area feels like it has some magical relaxation power. Greeks working in Crete often choose Sougia for their day off. From Sougia you can also take a boat to many places on the southern part of Crete.
Preveli, in the south of Crete. The river with the surrounding palm trees ends at the famous palm beach of Preveli.
The beach of Chrisi Akti.
At the horizon you can see Chania’s neighbourhood Nea Chora, and behind that Chania city. |
